P.S. I am not an expert on this, just a tech guy, but I am pretty sure there is a backup tool you can install on XP that does backup-n-rollback. What is it called? Oh well, whoever installs it will know! ;-)

Since this issue doesn’t appear to be a hardware issue, and since only a few of these computers experience this issue, I’d like to try a Windows XP SP3 (6.0.6000.16386) image on a few of these computers, and see what happens. Does anyone have any knowledge of issues with these computers, or experience with this image and computers like this?

Have tried the same Windows image on another Optiplex 790 and it works fine.

Have also tried a different 700Mhz kernel (6.0.6000.18606) on the same computer, after initially installing 6.0.6000.16386, and the computer boots up fine, no w32 errors, no hanging at splash screen - it immediately boots into the domain and reboots are not an issue.

So, it seems that there is some issue with the kernel, but I can’t get to the bottom of what that issue is.
